Jungle Jess

Jungle Jess

Jungle Jess is my daughter, Jess French. She has a first class degree in Zoology from UCL (University College London) and is now studying Veterinary Medicine and Surgery at the University of Nottingham.

Growing up surrounded by BugzUK's beasties, she is not scared of anything creepy or crawly, and is extremely knowledgeable about a wide range of the animals we supply. Jess' particular interests are conservation and education. She loves taking school groups on bug hunts and enthusing them about the natural world and how to protect it. She runs conservation workshops with school groups, university groups and zoos. In 2011 she won the Global Youth Leadership Award from the Jane Goodall Institute for her dedication to conservation education. She also runs workshops and parties with some of BugzUK's critters, teaching 4-16 year olds about a wide range of animals - and mainly just having a lot of fun introducing groups of kids to her weird and wonderful pets.

Jess has also worked in the media, showing off some of BugzUK's finest on the CBBC Live 'N' Deadly Roadshow and working behind the scenes on Springwatch to help select suitable footage for the program. Recently Jess has been asked to present a new CBeebies Show, which will encourage children to get outdoors and search for British minibeasts in their gardens.

Jess is available, with a selection of her own minibeasts, for parties, shows and school talks in the East Midlands area.
