Eudicella shulzeum, provided by Kai Hebblethwaite
Eudicella shulzeum
These beetles grow up to be about 3-4 centimetres long and are very active and will tend to burrow. They are easy to breed and can live for up to 6 months. They are completely harmless but they have a tight grip and can fly so make sure when youre handling one to close all windows and doors.
The terrarium size depends on how many you are keeping, a medium cricket keeper can hold about 3-4 adult beetles.
They feed on sweet fruits such as banana, apple and melon but will also eat beetle jelly.
They dont require much decoration but put in a branch for them to climb on as these beetles love to climb. Also scatter some rotten oak or beech leaves across the top of the substrate so if a beetle falls onto their back they can get themselves back on their feet.
To make the substrate simply collect some rotting wood and leaf litter from your local woods and mix it in with some organic compost, fill the terrarium 5cm deep with this so they can burrow and lay their eggs in it.
These beetles can be kept at room temperature and mist them for humidity.
The larvae eat rotting wood and leaf litter and are cannibalistic so separate them into tubs filled with substrate.
